Once upon a time, before Hollywood ruined the horror and sci-fi genres with endless sequels, remakes, cheap digital effects, shaky cams and a general fear of new ideas, there was a glorious era of wildly blooming innovation.

Iconic monsters roamed the theatres, suspenseful storylines amazed the audience, and innovative visuals showed us worlds never seen before.

Who could ever forget such legends as Alien, Predator, The Thing or Creature from the Black Lagoon?

Through the use of Practical Effects, masterfully crafted body suits, sculpture, prosthetic makeup, animatronics, puppetry and a lot of passion those characters affected us like no digitally animated 3D model ever could.

Now a Kickstarter campaign is aiming to resurrect this almost lost art.

With just over two days left Sandy Collora (Batman: Dead End, Hunter Prey) is currently seeking funding for a Practical Effects short film called Shallow Water.

It is planned as a part of a much bigger anthology feature in the tradition of such classics as Heavy Metal, Creepshow or Twilight Zone: The Movie.

The perks are simply astounding, including action figures, art books and physical props actually used in the making of the film.
